THE PUBLIC are thankful for a Cockermouth garden centre that has stayed open for all their DIY and horticultural needs throughout the pandemic. The Lakes Homecentre will be 22 years old in August. Since opening in 1999, the garden centre has become an essential stop for many Cockermouth residents. General manager Gary Whetton said: “The coffee house is closed at the minute but we have people coming week in week out. We have a lot of regular customers who come in and have a good chat.” The Lakes Homecentre expanded its base in 2010 and has offered a number of competitions over the years, encouraging the public to enjoy gardening. ....
