What is a leap year? Why this February has 29 days

Nearly every four years, February gets an extra day. In 2020, 2024, 2028, etc. February will have 29 days. It takes Earth 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 56 seconds to complete an orbit around the Sun. By adding an extra day every four years, it accounts for the extra 5 hours 48 minutes accumulated during a year.
