Most Thai nationals living in Sudan have been successfully evacuated to Saudi Arabia on Monday and are expected to return to Thailand this week.

The government is planning to evacuate Thai nationals from Sudan as soon as possible via the nearest airports, including Cairo airport in Egypt and the American Air Force Base in Djibouti.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the National Security Council (NSC) to ensure safety measures are in place for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit being held in the capital next month.

The state of emergency imposed to deal with the coronavirus pandemic will be lifted on Sept 30, and the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) set up under the emergency decree will be disbanded as a result.

Several groups plan to demonstrate next Friday when the Constitutional Court is due to announce its ruling on the tenure of suspended prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, according to the head of the National Security Council.
