Gallium and germanium become the latest weapon in the US-China trade war

Beijing responds to Biden’s export restrictions with some of its own — on two metals vital to military and commercial technologies. Washington has yet to respond.

China has said that gallium and germanium, along with their chemical compounds, will be subject to export controls meant to protect national security from August 1.

There are concerns that China could restrict more exports of critical minerals after after it put a ban on exports of gallium and germanium recently.
