Burlington, IA- The Des Moines County Emergency Management Agency has announced that the SKYWARN weather spotting program has been disbanded. The Hawk Eye reports that volunteers were informed of the decision to end the program in an email from Des Moines County Emergency Management coordinator Gina Hardin. Hardin said that the decision to disband the program came as a result of multiple factors, including struggles to maintain membership, as well as a lack of new volunteers. According to a statement from Des Moines County Emergency management, the National Weather Service has trained hundreds of weather spotters in the county over the years. These individuals will continue to give local, current weather reports to the NWS as they have been trained to do.
