Print Five candidates vying for the seat left by former Assemblywoman Shirley Weber squared off on school reopenings, police reform and other topics during a virtual debate hosted by Voice of San Diego Wednesday night. Weber, who was elected to the 79th District seat in the California Assembly in 2012 and who championed a landmark bill on police use of force, left that position in January, after Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed her to serve as California Secretary of State.
