lives matter? >> well, i joined you, joy, along with millions of people across the country in shock and awe the night of the election, and that night i also told myself, you know, you're going to have to double down on the work that i do every single day with people across this country. so what this means for us is that we're going to go deep into the things that we know work, like consciousness raising and building local power. i think some of the best examples of that are the recent victory we just saw in jackson, mississippi, knowing this is a long, protracted struggle and it takes years for change. while, yes, we are concerned with the hyper criminalization of our people and the violence that our people experience with impunity every single day, we also understand that we have to build collective power in order to create the type of world that we want to live in. >> beyond the concerns for the sort of physical bodies of the protestors who would dare go out in the street, who knows what
utmost importance. we can intellectualize later and figure out the dynamic with the inner city, minorities and -- indigent people. >> exactly my point. how do you end this behavior? >> one way you do it from the position of law enforcement agency is you assemble a team of law enforcement agents, undercover, form a task force, go out in the street, make arrests. the next part of the deterrence, how it's dealt with, how we sentence them going forward from here. >> when you say classified. i heard lag earlier, talked to a legal experts earlier. label it a hate crime. isn't there more to targeting pedestrians, incidents, and how difficult would it be to label this as a hate crime? and not just simply an assault or attempted murder or something? >> well, in order to have a hate
just another street to a lot of of individuals, which is unfortuna unfortunate. that makes us just want to think about why we do things to honor king in certain ways. but definitely some people, when you had a conversation with them and -- you know, we had the kids just kind of go out in the street and grab people off the street and ask them these questions. so when it's brought to them directly, then of course they're like, you know, yeah, we do live on king street and that is important. they do talk about the community and open up a little bit more. sure, when we had the opportunity to talk to people, they did talk about the fact that this is honoring king's legacy in whatever way. >> so finally alexus, did you anybody -- >> go ahead, nigel. >> it's important to recognize there's been scholar lly resear on the topic. it's not something that a joke has been made out of it. it's something that really permeates the community in such a way that there are really conversations about it. and folks really do want to try
