An accountant by background, Mr Shields joined Hackney in 2002 as corporate director of finance and resources and has been chief executive since 2007. Prior to joining Hackney he held roles at Wandsworth and Lambeth LBCs as well as Epsom & Ewell BC. Oxford City Council has announced the promotion of Caroline Green to become its new chief executive. Ms Green, who is currently assistant chief executive, is set to replace Gordon Mitchell who was appointed on an interim basis in 2017 and has overseen a major restructure of the council and its services. Her appointment is subject to ratification by councillors on 5 January.
