Andrea Branco, first person charged under new Colorado fentanyl law, sentenced

Fort Collins Police Services arrested Branco Sept. 7 of 2022 in connection to the overdose death of Kara Gorman, who was found unresponsive by her boyfriend. According to court records, the Branco and Gorman — who was born in Kansas but had recently moved to Northern Colorado — were in communication by text about purchasing “blues,” a code word for fentanyl, only hours before Gorman was found. FCPS was unable to find any other source for the fatal dose of fentanyl.

Three members of a Colorado police department have resigned after they arrested and booked a 73-year-old woman with dementia who was thrown to the ground and handcuffed after she was suspected of shoplifting, officials said on Friday.
The woman, Karen Garner, was pinned against a squad car, and her arm was twisted behind her back, breaking a bone and dislocating her shoulder during the roadside arrest in Loveland, Colo., last June, a lawsuit says.
