Share Ohio State redshirt-junior JonErik Alford shot a 1-under 70 on Tuesday at Beechmont Country Club in Beachwood, Ohio to earn one of seven qualifying spots out of the US Open Local Qualifier. Alford, a Johns Creek, Ga., native, made three birdies and two bogeys in his round. He finished fifth in the 120-player field. The field also included Buckeye teammates Jackson Chandler, Maxwell Moldovan, Grant Engle and Patrick Schmucking. As a team, the Buckeyes finished eight in the 14-team field at 8-under par. Moldovan carded rounds of 69-69-68 (-10) and made just one bogey over 54 holes. Ohio State was led by a pair of freshmen making their Buckeye stroke-play debuts as Maxwell Moldovan and Adam Wallin are 6-under par and in a tie for ninth.
