Share Ohio State redshirt-junior JonErik Alford shot a 1-under 70 on Tuesday at Beechmont Country Club in Beachwood, Ohio to earn one of seven qualifying spots out of the US Open Local Qualifier. Alford, a Johns Creek, Ga., native, made three birdies and two bogeys in his round. He finished fifth in the 120-player field. The field also included Buckeye teammates Jackson Chandler, Maxwell Moldovan, Grant Engle and Patrick Schmucking. Chandler and Moldovan missed a playoff for the final spot by one and two shots, respectively. The next step for Alford is Sectional Qualifying which will be held at 11 locations around the country from May 24 – June 7. The US Open is being held this year Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego, Calif, on June 17-20.
