Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that 75 businesses, schools, and community-based organizations across the state have been awarded nearly $9.5 million as part of the State's historic Workforce Development Initiative. Funding and incentives provided by Department of Labor, Empire State Development and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority will support critical job training and employment opportunities in high-demand industries for nearly 5,000 New Yorkers across the State.

"When the COVID-19 crisis hit and New York's economy took a turn for the worse, the state's Workforce Development Initiative became even more vital to our longtime goal of making sure everyone, regardless of background, has access to a good job," Governor Cuomo said. "We're providing greater economic opportunity to New Yorkers and addressing the business needs of companies committed to growing here, and these awards will help companies across the state train workers in marketable skills that they can use to get good jobs and help move New York's economy forward."

Mike Brady | International Business Times

Mike Brady is the former president and CEO of Greyston Bakery, a community-focused Riverdale, New York-based company that’s been in operation since 1982. Brady is also known for his compassion, visionary leadership, management expertise and willingness to continue building on the company’s long heritage of serving its community.
Taking after the former Greyston Bakery CEO and Founder Bernie Glassman, Brady continued the company’s “open hiring” practices, where it aims to get hard-to-employ people via a first-come, first-served waiting list. Choosing to invest in ability rather than in background, his leadership allowed Greyston Bakery to operate on the Buddhist ideal of “non-judgment and embracing uncertainty” established by its founder.

They lead with kindness. It is one of the simpler yet core ideals of Social Capital that could easily be dismissed as trite, but it’s a key trait that is too often overlooked in importance when it comes to leadership skills nowadays.
