forces, who have their own unofficial channel within the airport and those essentially escorted on. but the numbers are a lot smaller. and so when secretary of state antony blinken talks about 500 for certain americans that need to get out and 1,000 who they are looking for and might need their assistance, that is of course high priority. and the window for that is rapidly closing. it is now already late afternoon in kabul, so they are looking to tomorrow, they are seeing the u.s. leaving and their allies. the brits tonight. i should tell you one more thing, as it panic tightens, i was told by a source familiar with the situation that gulf stream jet tried to land a few hours ago this kabul airport. it was denied permission and flew off and it is thought that it contains another congressional delegation. remember two congressmen were kind of heavily criticized for flying in on resources that should be used for the evacuation a matter of days ago.

it does seem as though another private jet has tried to bring more in. unclear who they are, but startling at this time desperation that somebody would think to put themselves in that situation and use up the runway. >> nick, thank you so much. and speaking of those two congressmen who took a secret bipartisan trip to afghanistan to witness the evacuation efforts firsthand, well, they are drawing bipartisan condemnation now. these unauthorized visits catching the white house and house leadership completely off guard. >> it is not just about them going to afghanistan. there is a call on our resources diplomatically, politically, militarily and the rest in the region as well. so this is deadly serious. we do not want members to go. >> i don't think others really have the opportunity to go since

right? and it is connections. and being at the right place at the right time. >> reporter: it is who you know. it is who you know. it is extraordinary to -- there has been a system here for u.s. visa applicants. it hasn't worked. the u.s. government has known that it hasn't worked and everyone is clearly doing the best they can, but it is the fundamental lack of foundation in the system that has been exposed throughout all of this and frankly the toxic nature of migrant politics in the current day. one more thing i should tell you as well, speaking of the pressures on that base, i understand from a source familiar with the situation that gulf stream private jet just recently tried to land in kabul airport and was denied permission. it seems to have come from athens, but it is thought that on that private jet was another congressional delegation. there is a lot of heat over the

had andrew, then we had i think storms like katrina and rita in the gulf of mexico back in 2005. but we really haven't seen a storm like irma. so it's extremely dangerous, especially with the path that it's projected to go through the bahamas and threaten florida. also a very large storm. >> it bears repeating what you just said, this is the strongest storm in the atlantic that we have ever seen. and it's getting stronger. is it getting stronger because it's going over warmer water as it approaches the u.s.? >> yes. that is a big part of it. part of it is the upper level environment around the storm. and that's exactly what we are measuring right now in our gulf stream jet. we're up at 45,000 feet, getting a full profile of the atmosphere from that altitude all the way

where they take the military equivalent of the gulf stream jet. on this, he is going to asia on the gulf stream. which is, i guess the way he's used to traveling as a former chief executive of an oil company, but there never has been a trip of this nature. no secretary has ever take an long trip without generally 13 to 15 reporters. still photographers, the basic press pool has always traveled with the sec tars of state going back to henry and before that. >> and every news organization we should also point out pays quite a bit of money for those seats. so it's not as if we're just getting a free ride when we get on those planes. >> we help pay the cost of the plane actually by the extra costs that they put on us. willingly, it's part of a free press. there is something more than just a trip involved here. the state department is the beacon of press freedom around the world. the message now to china in particular when he gets to beijing is the press freedom
