The following are excerpts from the Westwood Police logs from April 26-May 3. The logs are public record.
Monday, April 26
2:19 p.m.: A resident of Putting Drive reported fraud. In early March, the resident noticed three transactions from their checking account to a fraudulent Zell account. The transactions totaled $1,993. The resident has frozen their account, and is dealing with the bank.
2:32 p.m.: A resident turned over two very old .22-caliber target pistols to the station for proper disposal.
4:55 p.m.: A resident of Far Reach Road reported that their mailbox, supported on a granite post, had been struck by a vehicle. Damage was estimated at $250. The resident said it may have happened between 1 and 4:45 p.m.; the resident had several deliveries made. Police are seeking video footage of the area from neighbors. ....

Westwood Town Meeting approves bridge funds for Hanlon project

The move toward replacing Hanlon Elementary School took a big step forward during Westwood s annual Town Meeting on May 3.
Residents approved Article 13, which would allow the town to borrow $1.46 million to help with design development for the school project.
Should residents approve the overall project at a Town Meeting in October, the old Hanlon School would replaced with a larger facility that would house students from both Hanlon and Deerfield.
Peter Ittig, a member of the Finance and Warrant Commission, said he voted against the measure, saying the request was premature; he wanted the town to wait until the vote in October. ....
