CNN The Lead With Jake Tapper June 4, 2024 21:32:00

Trump seems to be deepening and hardening, despite the fact that he s been indicted and found guilty in another case and we know that in august we ll potentially another indictment coming forward. in georgia. the fulton county. right. so i think that is the challenge for both of them. but sure, the question is going to be though, for desantis, can he sell that agenda, make america like florida, something like that. can you sell that to a general election electorate? and quickly on desantis, the thing about this disney announcement where they said they re pulling this billion dollars effort to build office space. that is in part similar to something that happened during covid when he took on the cruise line industry. where he s putting his ideology ahead of economic development and jobs. i don t know if that is going to wear well. he s got a good message in terms of what he s been saying in terms of, look, in order to ....

The outpouring i have experienced the last 24 hours from both sides of the aisle. genuine concern from my staff and a look of concern and recognition on people s faces that, hey, this was a random act of violence from somebody suffering mental illness. i think it s kind of broken open. to and from the capitol. and what we can do to try to protect our staffs and the public we serve who may be in our offices when and if something awful happens. there are two pieces of that. and as a country, we learn this after 9/11. there is a hardening of potential targets. but they re also on the other side of the equation could be a softening of the things that radicalize and incentivize violence and access to weapons. ....

Otherwise, there is no real point and putting that. you wake up from a coma and the guy from home alone to vice president and found liable of sexual abuse that might be president again? go back into that coma. hayes, you mentioned that we didn t learn anything. you are right, across the board. one thing trump did say policy wise what he said, yeah, america should default on its debt. i wonder, as a follow-up, what should be the democratic party response to that? shouldn t it be a hardening of the democratic position on no negotiations with crazy republicans whose leader says default on the debt? in recent days, we ve seen a softening from the white house instead, with democrats around biden saying to reporters, well, there is a deal, covid money, austerity, we want to cut spending as well. i think they are going in the wrong direction. i completely agree. especially since you are right, there was one real moment of truth during that town hall that slipped by a lot of people. it w ....

Do you thing more teachers should be armed in schools? if you have a training program and a training program and a system where teacher can be armed and there is yeah, that s a real possibility if you don t have other school resource officers. otherwise, you can bring in outside school resource officers. if if teacher wants to be trained, you have a system in place to get appropriate training. not just a guy, mr. smith carries a gun. you gotta have the right training and protocols and all of that. we made tens of millions of dollars in investment in new hampshire around the hardening of our schools, right investing and safety. it isn t just met with some has a gun and a training or not. we have that of course. it s really about lockdown systems, communication, safe doors, all that sort of thing. those things can sound small but in the moment of the crisis they can be very big deals. we take that very seriously. teachers across the country don t necessarily want to be armed. they ....

In 2019 new vetoed three gun safety bills passed by the state legislature. one of those bills would ve prevented guns on school property. it would have required parents to leave their guns in the car when picking up the kids from school. so to me as a parent it sounds like it makes a lot of sense. what does it make sense about that? public property. parents should be allowed to bring guns into schools? technically they can, yeah. why would that be something that would make kids safer or teachers? i m not saying it s making people safer but it would be pulling away individuals right when they have the right to do that on public property and public around. so it s freedom, or it s to be able to okay do you think teachers, because one of the things that president trump called for was the hardening of schools. to think more teachers should be armed in schools? if you have training programs, in a training program and a system where teacher can be armed then yeah, that s a ....
