A reopening ceremony of the Carroll Historical Society, located at 5 W. Main St., Frewsburg, will be happening at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The newly renovated Carroll Historical Society building, located behind the town hall, will be one of the highlights of the ceremony, which will also included featured speaker state Sen. George Borrello.

The final day of the NZ Millennium Cup was noticeably lacking in breeze, though entrants didn’t let that dampen spirits.
While the race committee worked to plan a race around the conditions, the fleet headed to Motuarohia Island to make the most of the beautiful weather; and the opportunity to swim with dolphins.
Unfortunately at 3pm the announcement was made to cancel racing for the day.
“Due to the unstable nature of current weather conditions, and the time which it would take to get underway before the cut off point, we will now display AP over A; no more racing today,” was the declaration from principal race officer, Harold Bennett. ....

Though the final day lacked the breeze that had helped the action on previous days, the race committee worked to plan a race around the conditions. The decision to move the fleet to Motuarohia Island not only made the most of the beautiful weather, but also provided an opportunity to swim with dolphins. ....

It left a massive hole in the mainplane, the metal skin bent up into the airstream. The pair managed to limp back, where Guye made a challenging, but successful landing.
Harold did not escape danger. On his first operation Harold was apprehensive. He had been allocated a Spitfire, usually flown by the Station Commander Harry Broadhurst.
Because of his status he used his initials - HB – on his aircraft. It did not escape Harold’s attention that these were his initials also. After a lengthy fight, he turned for home. Crossing the French coast, the needle kept banging on empty. ....

Mike Lee of Red Beach landed a job as a grinder for Emirates Team NZ. He is one of several Hibiscus Coast residents involved in the America’s Cup, Photo, Emirates Team NZ.
Sailing is big on the Coast, so it is perhaps no surprise that a number of locals are involved in the America’s Cup – working on everything from organisation behind the scenes and caring for the trophy itself to powering Team NZ. Hibiscus Matters caught up with six people whose work is filling the sails of the 36th Challenge.
