Finland wants to simplify its welfare system, but what would that involve?
On February 11, 2024, Finland elected its 13th president, Alexander Stubb. A former foreign minister and Conservative Party chairman.
A poll by Helsingin Sanomat shows the National Coalition’s Alexander Stubb would win 57 per cent and the Greens’ Pekka Haavisto 43 per cent of the votes if the second round of the Finnish presidential elections was held now.
Alexander Stubb (NCP) received 27.2 per cent and Haavisto 25.8 per cent of the almost 3,250,000 votes cast in the first round of the elections. The gap between the two candidates advancing to the second round has not been as narrow as this since 1994, reveals an analysis by Helsingin Sanomat.
