Stray dogs' menace increasing in the city

Stray dogs’ menace increasing in the city
Islamabad
May 17, 2021
Number of stray dogs in Railway Colony Lohi Bher is causing concern. It is frightening to see a pack of dogs on the prowl in most of the surrounding localities of this colony.
“Fazal Town Phase-I has its share of stray dogs. The menace of stray dogs is indeed increasing here as one can find them moving freely on almost all streets of the area in packs and the people are risking their lives while moving around,” says Abbas Raza Zaidi.
“It has become difficult for the residents to go for morning or evening walks even in groups in many areas due to stray dogs. Even when one goes to mosque for morning or evening prayer, dogs are seen moving in packs and the walkers have to always be on guard as dogs, sometimes more than ten in number, could attack,” adds Abbas Raza Zaidi.

Drexel Names New Computing Cluster After Historic Alumna | Now

Back in 2014, when researchers affiliated with Drexel University’s University Research Computing Facility (URCF) were deciding the name of its first high-performance computer cluster, they went with an ancient, mythological choice: Proteus, the shape-changing sea god from Greek mythology.
When naming its replacement computer cluster, the URCF went with something a little closer to home.
Picotte, which opened in February, is named in honor of Susan La Flesche Picotte (1865-1915), MD, who, according to current research, was the first Native American to become a physician in the U.S. Picotte graduated in 1889 from one of the Drexel University College of Medicine’s predecessor schools, Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania (WMCP), one of the world’s first medical schools for women and one that graduated many trailblazing doctors.

Get a grip: Adding haptics to prosthetic hands eases users' mental load

Researchers from Johns Hopkins and Drexel universities say that adding haptics—an artificial sense of touch—to upper limb prostheses reduces the mental effort required to operate the device, bringing us closer to developing prosthetic technology that functions more like healthy limbs.
In what researchers are calling the first study of its kind, the cross-institutional team used neuroimaging to investigate if haptic feedback would help people who use prosthetic hands to expend less mental effort while carrying out tasks. The team's findings were published today in
