Times deeper essentially than we would operate our military submarines. and the pressure down there is 400 times what we experience here at atmospheric level. in a spacecraft, you re going from one atmosphere to zero. that s one. this is 400 times the difference between what a spacecraft would experience between itself and the outside. so it is it is like they re on the back side of the moon. a, we have to find them. b, we have to get them back up to the surface. if they re bolted in, they cannot open the hatch from the inside. so they need to be located, hooked, say with a cable, brought back up, and then we can let them out. it is obviously incredibly dark at that depth. it is obviously very cold at that depth. sunlight can t reach down there. the titanic sits around 13,000 feet deep. we know a diver outside of a vehicle can only survive a few hundred feet below the surface. my understanding is there aren t ....

FOXNEWS The Story With Martha MacCallum June 4, 2024 19:08:00

13,000 feet, this is far beyond what any conventional rescue mission would be able to handle. you d have to have a like submersible to go down there and try to pull them up. that s the only way they ll survive. they get to that surface, open that hatch. breathe fresh air. logistics about going there and all the weather, the sea state, the temperatures. it freezing down there. it s about 35, 40 degrees down there. so they don t have the heaters running, they re going to freeze. there s a lot of risk. martha: a lot of risk indeed. it s a terrifying situation. it s heartening that there s a tremendous effort underway. that civilian force is coming in as well. they need all eyes in the hopes ....

Open that hatch. that shouldn t take long. if they can get the ship there in time. and ships don t travel like planes. ten knots, 15. doing the work in the water. this is a submersible and it s underwater. even when it s on the surface, it barely sticks out of the water. 99% of it is under water. it s not like a boat. doesn t float on the top. the oceangate ceo who did the same trip told us about the mechanics involved and it seemed to me, working here, a fairly simple operating system. we can use these off the shelf components. got these from camper world. we run the whole thing with this game control. come on! is that standard and, honestly, when i heard that, i thought, wow. there are a lot of questions on this. ....

KNTV NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt June 4, 2024 23:04:00

At sea level. no diver could pith stand it. even a los angeles class navy sub has a maximum depth of 2 to 3,000 feet. tim taylor has led dozens of sub missions looking for world war ii wrecks. rockets explode, submersibles implode. they crush down on themselves like a toothpaste tube. reporter: but with time ticking away u.s. coast guard and canadian ships and planes are coordinating a grid search looking for any signs the sub has come to the surface. so far nothing. if the sub is intact under water it may have only a day and a half of air left. this is a very complex search and a unified team is working around the clock to bring all available assets to bear as quickly as possible. reporter: the sub called titan has never been certified. among the safety concerns the hatch can only be unbolted and opened from the outside, not the inside. and it runs using a video game controller. the navy is now rushing salvage equipment to the site in case the sub needs to be lifted out of ....
