NASIRIYA, Iraq: At least 52 people were killed and 22 others injured in a fire likely caused by an oxygen tank explosion at a COVID-19 hospital in Iraq s southern city of Nassiriya, health officials and police said on Monday (Jul 12).
This is the second such deadly blaze in Iraq in three months.

A raging fire tore through a COVID-19 ward at an Iraqi hospital Monday, killing at least 50 people with the death toll expected to rise.
The fire at al-Hussain hospital in the city of Nasiriyah was believed to have been sparked by an oxygen tank exploding inside the coronavirus wing of the hospital, according to police reports.
“The victims died of burns and the search is continuing,” said Haydar al-Zamili, a local health authority spokesman.

Au moins 52 patients ont trouvé la mort lundi dans un incendie qui a ravagé l’unité Covid d’un hôpital de Nassiriya, dans le sud de l’Irak, ont indiqué les autorités, deux mois et demi après une tragédie similaire qui avait fait plus de 80 morts dans un hôpital de Bagdad.
Le bilan provisoire s’établit à 52 morts et 22 blessés, a déclaré à l’AFP le porte-parole des autorités sanitaires locales, Haydar al-Zamili, précisant que l’unité Covid de l’hôpital Al-Hussein ravagée par les flammes comptait 70 lits (bien 70). ....
