The 8¢ lilac Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman stamp was issued March 21, 1893, to pay the new 8¢ registry fee that went into effect on Jan. 1, 1893.
Short sets of the lower denomination stamps (Scott 62-70) are inexpensive and plentiful. The full set is rarely offered.
The stamp designs depict a seeing-eye dog, a therapy dog, a military working dog and a rescue dog.
Because they saw little use, some postal cards and airmail postal cards are much more valuable in used condition than in mint condition.
