The firm, which manages some £20bn of Britons savings, added Bitcoin into the popular Ruffer Investment Company and its £3.5bn Total Return Fund. This comes as the value of Bitcoin broke through the $20,000 (£14,815) for the first time. The digital currency has been one of the best performing investments this year and has nearly tripled in value. ....

It also brings financial ones. For John Parker, an 80-year-old retired doctor, the most important consideration is whether his wife will be supported financially if he passes away before her. Mr Parker, who asked to speak under a pseudonym, has chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. Although it does not yet require treatment, the prognosis implies he will die before his 77-year-old wife, who is in good health. “I want to know that if I die before her, which I expect to happen, she will be prepared financially and will be able to move into a care home if she needs to,” he said. ....
