Holyoke schools set graduation dates Updated 1:36 PM; HOLYOKE – The city’s public school system has set dates for high school graduations and senior year events. Acting Superintendent Anthony Soto updated the School Committee Monday on graduation and senior events for May and June. A majority of staff and students favored separate graduations for the Holyoke High School North and Dean Campuses. Both schools formed graduation task forces, which comprise students, teachers, parents, school district and health officials. The North Campus graduation occurs Sunday, June 6 at 1 p.m., with Class Day scheduled for June 4. Cap and Gown Day is May 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Brien Center To Share in $4.9 Million Grant The Baker-Polito Administration today announced $4.9 million in grants awarded to six agencies, including hospitals and treatment and behavioral health centers, for the creation of evidence-based and data-driven co-occurring substance use disorder/mental health response teams embedded in high schools in ten communities to offer intervention and treatment services, and provide alternatives to school suspension for substance use. The Brien Center, here in the Berkshires, is among the recipients. According to a press release from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the six agencies were selected for grant funding based on their ability to provide access to these crucial services, both in school and in the community, as well as virtually due to instances of remote and hybrid learning.

Holyoke Public Schools refine hybrid learning plan Updated Feb 10, 2021; Vazquez Matos said the district would prioritize the youngest learners reentering classrooms, including pre-K through grade 5. The district will enact Classroom Learning Centers, a hybrid model, for grades 6-8 twice weekly. The centers provide an all-day, in-person option for students who want the live experience. Remote learners would join sessions. Teachers will maintain their remote schedule with staff offering support for in-person students at the centers, with a tentative location for grades 6-9 at Holyoke High School North Campus. Vazquez Matos expects families to receive the schedules next week. Enrollment would dictate current and future staffing levels at the learning centers.
