Print Seventy years ago United Nations coalition troops regained control of Seoul — South Korea’s war-battered capital city — from Communist forces for the second time during the Korean War. The Allies would hold Seoul for the remainder of the war. Korea had been partitioned along the 38th Parallel after World War II. Two independent governments were in place by 1948.
