Hope is coming for Chinatown. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a Chinatown relief plan Tuesday, aimed at bringing $1.9 million to restaurants to feed the neighborhood’s single-room occupancy hotel residents.
The ordinance still needs to pass a final vote next week, and then Mayor London Breed will have 10 days to sign it before it becomes law. But Chinatown leaders are confident they’ve already launched the program this week, bringing resources to the neighborhood’s residents and businesses such as the 100-year-old Far East Cafe, which may not permanently close as planned. ....
