But we ll never, ever, ever forget the terrible cost that we paid as a nation. many of you likely lost friends or colleagues in afghanistan and iraq. i know this is personal to you. especially as you head into memorial day weekend. we as a nation will always remember and pay tribute to knows we lost. after i announced my decision to end the war in afghanistan, the first thing i did was visit visit section 60 of arlington national cemetery. just walked through the head stones. seen all those stones. our son did not die in iraq. but he came back at an incredibly healthy young man and came back with a severe brain tumor, because his hooch was downwind from the burn pits. ....

The eight seniors participating in this year’s Annual Senior Thesis Exhibition opening May 7 have produced work that reflects on the ephemeral qualities of humanity, some of it created in mediums chosen in part because of the restrictions of COVID-19, and much of it with heavy emphasis on nature, from its most essential cellular level to the beauty and utility of landscapes. 
Fittingly then, these studio art majors’ work in video, animation, ceramics, and photography reflects what life in this academic year has been so far: complex, challenging, and requiring flexibility. But beyond that, what permeates the exhibition is a sense of gratitude. For one thing, these Class of 2021 studio art majors, whose thesis work has been advised during the Winter term by Associate Professor of Art and Visual Culture Pamela Johnson and last Fall by Lecturer Susan Dewsnap, get to have a physical show at the Bates College Museum ....

Pratapgarh hooch tragedy toll reaches six, 2 more die | Allahabad News


Prayagraj: With two more deaths, the toll in the hooch tragedy at Katariya village in Pratapgarh mounted to six on Thursday.
So far, five persons, including main accused Dabbu Singh, have been apprehended. A joint team of the police and excise department have launched a hunt for three others, including a local liquor mafia and sitting pradhan.
According to the police, Dabbu was planning to contest the gram pradhan election from Katariya and had allegedly distributed spurious liquor to woo villagers on March 30.
IG (Prayagraj range) K P Singh told TOI, “Two more people, identified as Rampal (50) and Rammilan Kori (35), residents of Ratiyapur and Katariya villages, have died during treatment The condition of three others is said to be stable.” ....
