A revised so-called "bailout" package is being readied for a Senate vote and subsequent action in the House. Action on this rescue package is urgently needed. Households across the nation are beginning to see the leading edge of the storm that is already roiling credit markets here and around the world. ....
Whatever they have to do by way of time, effort ors effort, resources, cost, if they find a few bad actors which i m very skeptical that there s that many, but what they do collect in additional revenue to treasury is going to be meaningfully less than what it costs to get it. what business would ever make that decision? so, yeah, privacy concerns, constitutional concerns, public trust all to end up losing money in the endeavor. neil: you do have to wonder where all this is going. you know, the build back better and some of the means by which we re supposed to pay for that, it might never come to pass, but this thing is alive and well, jonas. there s a revenue raiser here, we just don t know to what degree, right? yeah. and there s a long history of trying to add something to bring in money when you re doing spending. in fact, a very similar thing was done in 2008 under bush that added also to the housing bailout which was very costly which was the same thing for ....
I m asking where the tea party republicans? where s fiscally responsible republicans who railed against this kind of spending in previous years? what are they saying now? well, if you re calling the tea party really started because they had a problem with the housing bailout and they felt that people who didn t make good decisions get bailed out by the government and then, you know, the spending part of it sort of glommed on later. i don t know. i think their interest is on other things right now like immigration and the caravan and that sort of thing. they like the tax cuts. they think we have a spending problem. not a taxing problem. but you know what? low unemployment, nobody cares. eventually we ll care but i think you see no evidence on the republican side and if i look at the various democratic candidates and proposing, potential candidates, almost no interest there, as well. let me ask you. let the good times roll. we have low unemployment. wages are rising. inflation is ....
Insuggestives, and one piece of data in the romney economic documents that caught my eye, he will push spending back to 20% of gdp, the average since 1968. during obama s term it s risen to about 24% of gdp. if he sticks to that, that means to spending will not rise during the romney presidency. paul: i would have to say romney has to avoid the bush mistakes of subsidizing housing and created a housing bubble which led to the crisis. to his credit, even in places like nevada when it s been politically not, not the easiest thing to do. he s resisted, saying, yeah, let s go for another housing bailout. kim, as a political strategy, do you think that romney ought to attempt, retorically somehow to separate himself from president bush and say that obama s policies are the biggest problems we have right ....
