By Erik Harris, sports editor BIRMINGHAM The Hewitt-Trussville indoor track and field team claimed first place in both the boys and girls meet on Wednesday in Birmingham. Behind 10 first-place individual finishers, the Huskies stood out among an eight-team field at the Hump Day Octameet in the CrossPlex Athletic Facility. Hewitt-Trussville senior Lea Townsend won the shot put event with a winning throw of 40-0.75 just shy of her state-best throw of 40-4 at the Holiday Invitational in December. Joining the Huskies in that competitive field were Mountain Brook, Helena, Homewood, Oak Mountain, Pelham, Scottsboro and Thompson. Fellow Hewitt senior Julian Collins won the boys long jump event with a leap of 23-6, which matches the 2020-21 AHSAA-leading distance he gave at the Magic City Invitational last month. The Alabama signee also won the triple jump event with a 45-06 effort. Collins holds the state’s top triple jump performance of the season at 47-0.2 ....
