A Llano traffic stop turned into a foot pursuit that ended with the arrest of a 37-year-old man wanted out of Colorado on felony theft charges. Llano police officers pulled over a black pickup truck on Texas 16 just before 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, for an expired registration. A check on the suspect also determined he had a felony warrant out of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

(Photo provided — ROOST) LAKE PLACID — Organizers of the annual Holiday Village Stroll are working hard to make sure residents and visitors don’t have a blue Christmas this year. They haven’t canceled the 11th annual event, but it will be scaled back. The Holiday Village Stroll this weekend — Dec. 11 to 13 — will be altered to adhere to public health restrictions in place due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will be more of a “do-it-yourself” affair rather than a community celebration.

(News photo — Andy Flynn) The process of making ice on the Olympic Speedskating Oval in front of the Lake Placid Middle-High School begins on Monday, Dec. 7 as state Olympic Regional Development Authority crews use a truck to lay down water, which freezes into layers of ice. This process usually takes several days, and ORDA hopes to have a soft opening this weekend, weather permitting, to kick off the new season of skating at the Oval.
