international, who are watching our special coverage of hurricane irene, a category 1 storm, a massive storm that is on its move, up the eastern seaboard. it came ashore a couple of hours ago, making landfall near camp lookout, north carolina. there s new video we are getting from nearby, atlantic beach shows you what irene has left behind already in some areas. the hurricane storm surge swamping the town with ocean water. also, irene is spinning its way northward to some of the biggest cities on the eastern coast of the united states. cities like new york, washington, baltimore, boston, cities that aren t used to being prepared for a hurricane. they could all get slammed by this storm this weekend. right now, irene, a category 1 storm, it is pushing sustained winds of about 85 miles an hour. irene has also claimed at least one life in north carolina. we do have special hurricane coverage for you this morning that spans that coastline, from north carolina all the way up ....

All right. we ll continue to monitor the hurricane coverage, but we re going to move on to sean hannity s interview with former vice president dick cheney. they discussed his book, his health, and of course president obama. take a listen. i think the american people were well served by the policies that we put in place. i think the troops did a manhattan job when they captured and killed bin laden. i d prefer to have him dead, by the way, not captured, but in the future you ll be able you re going to have to continue to address those kinds of issues. my concern in part over what the obama administration has done overtime, their efforts to close gauntanamo, and so forth, is to strip away some of the capability that we built. that would be unfortunate, because there will be more occasions when they ll need it. dick cheney, i have to say, is my favorite member of the bush administration. i know you all heard snoring ....

Is open right now, just two hours outside of sendai, tremendously long lines. and the shelves of the stores here in northern japan, it s what we see during our hurricane coverage in the united states, empty shelves. not a lot to buy. you know, for us, the journalists who have to cover the story, you know, we re buying our supplies in tokyo and then trying to get it up here. but it s a very difficult situation. i feel so sorry for the people who live here. give us a little contrast between what you re seeing here in japan and what you saw in haiti last year in the aftermath of the earthquake there? reporter: people come up to us and ask us, what can we expect? in haiti, there were a lot of people who would come up to us and they were fully expecting that there would be an earthquake that was stronger than the first. a lot of people, sadly, think it s punishment from above, and that they ve done something wrong and that s the cause of this. it makes you so sad. and you try to reassur ....
