NEWS 3.4.21: Woodbury County C19 Update, Former Plastic Surgeon Surrenders License, and More

The Iowa Department of Public Health reported three more deaths due to COVID-19 in Woodbury County for 214 in all since the start of the pandemic. Statewide there were 35 additional deaths reported in 24-hours and more than 550 new positive tests.

There are currently outbreaks at a dozen long-term care facilities in Iowa, with none in northwest Iowa.
Siouxland District Health says there are still openings available for a vaccination clinic planned for Monday. Appointments have been reserved for people with disabilities who receive treatment at home, plus their care staff.

WOOD RIVER — Nearly 17% of Madison County residents have now received at least one COVID-19 vaccination.
On Wednesday, the IDPH was reporting 57,172 COVID-19 vaccinations so far in Madison County. That included 44,871 first vaccine doses — or 16.9% of the population — given, as well as 12,301 second vaccine doses, or 4.65% of the population, to be fully vaccinated.
The Madison County Health Department has said the actual number of both vaccinations is higher than the IDPH figures.

Siouxland District Health reported two more deaths in Woodbury County for a death toll of 210 due to complications of COVID-19. The positivity rate is up slightly to 6%. Hospitalizations are up almost 15% with 14 patients at Sioux City’s two medical facilities. Statewide there are 241 patients, with 60 in intensive care. That’s a small decrease from the day before.
There have been 18 new cases added in Woodbury County. Statewide, there are more than 550 new cases and 15 deaths in a 24-hour period that ended this morning at 10 a.m.
Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts is defending the state’s decision to prioritize the elderly for coronavirus vaccination shots over people with underlying health conditions, noting that most Nebraska residents who have died so far were at least 65 years old.

• Masks are required for all guests and employees. If customers forget their masks, they may buy another one at the theatre for $1
• Reduced touch points
• Condiments and refills are available upon request; lids, straws and napkins are grab-and-go
• Reduced capacities in the auditoriums to safely socially distance
• Masks may only be removed in the auditoriums to eat or drink where allowed

Siouxland is under a Wind Chill Warning until Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. The National Weather Service says expect dangerously cold wind chills of up to 40-below overnight.
Last night’s weather set records across the region. Sioux City did as well, with a low temperature of -28.
Nebraska also saw a number of low-temperature records broken and expected more to fall Tuesday — as a polar vortex pushed Arctic air into the Plains. Temperatures are expected to be below normal for almost a week.
Frigid weather that has sent temperatures plunging across Middle America also has power and gas utilities urging customers to dial down the thermostat through Wednesday. Utility companies serving Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri issued the plea yesterday and today for customers to conserve power as temperatures dropped to nearly 30 below in parts of western and northern Nebraska early Monday, sending the wind chill to as low as nearly 50 below in some places.
