Indonesia, which has seen drug addiction spiral into a life-threatening problem for millions of people, on Monday joined the global observance of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The theme of this year’s commemoration of UN Day was "share facts on drugs, save lives”, since sharing reliable information on drugs is indispensable to substance abuse prevention efforts.

Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - Police in Mandailing Natal district, North Sumatra, prevented three drug couriers from transporting 570 kilograms of marijuana by truck to Jakarta during a recent drug raid launched after a two-week-long surveillance.

The apprehended suspects were identified by their initials as IN (19), AL (31), and RW (27), Mandailing Natal Police chief, Adjunct Sen.Coms. Horas Tua Silalahi, told local journalists on Wednesday.

They were arrested after cops found 26 sacks containing 570 kg of marijuana on a truck parked on the roadside in Maga Lombang village, he informed.

Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA) - Indonesia's imposition of severe punishment on drug lords and dealers apparently failed to deter two local traffickers attempting to smuggle 131 kilograms (kg) crystal methamphetamine and several thousand ecstasy pills from Malaysia into South Sumatra.
Fortunately, the suspects' operation to smuggle drugs was thwarted by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) officials in the province during a drug raid operation on Saturday evening, Sen. Coms. Habi Kusno from the BNN-South Sumatra Office stated.
The duo were apprehended while transporting the drug packages into Musi River through the waterway of Jerik Hamlet in Giliran Dusun 3 Village, Muara Sugihan Sub-district, Banyuasin District, South Sumatra, Kusno was quoted as saying here on Monday.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - West Jakarta metropolitan police officers thwarted a 22-year-old drug courier's attempt to deliver a crystal methamphetamine package on Friday as the government is imposing the public activity restrictions to prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases in the capital city.
The suspect, only identified by his initial S, was arrested in Kapuk Muara neighborhood, Penjaringan Subdistrict, North Jakarta, Chief of the West Jakarta Police Narcotics Unit Adjunct Sen.Coms.Ronaldo Maradona Siregar was quoted as saying here Sunday.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police chief candidate Com.Gen.Listyo Sigit Prabowo must continue Indonesia's war on drugs by intensifying law enforcement against domestic and trans-national rings, which remain a threat to the entire nation, a legislator said.
"I have appealed to him to keep focusing on handling the drug crimes," said Andi Rio Idris Padjalangi, a member of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR), which oversees legal affairs, here on Wednesday.
