Uganda's president has extended a six-week lockdown on two districts at the epicentre of an Ebola outbreak in the nation. Describing the situation as "still fragile", President Yoweri Museveni extended a lockdown on the two central districts of Mubende and Kassandra by 21 days. The World Health Organization (WHO) and US Health agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warned on Wednesday that the world now faces an impending threat of measles spreading in numerous locations internationally due to the COVID-19 pandemic's ongoing impact on vaccine coverage and impaired disease surveillance. As per a joint report issued by the two organisations, a record 40 million children missed a vaccination dose for measles in the year 2021. It chalks this up to hurdles created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In its crackdown to quash the protests triggered by Mahsa Amini's death, the Iranian security forces, according to a human rights organisation, have allegedly killed 72 individuals just in the last week. The Norway-based group Iran Human Rights (IHR) said that 416 people have lost their lives in the bloody crackdown; of this 21 were women and 51 were children. It claims that 72 people had died in the last week alone, 56 of which died in western Kurdish-populated areas where protests have increased recently.
An Islamabad trial court on Monday issued a notice to Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana reference summoning him to appear before it on Tuesday (November 22). As per reports Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal will preside over the hearing. Last month Khan was disqualified from his National Assembly seat last under Article 63(1)(p) by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over allegations that he had lied to officials about the gifts he had received from foreign dignitaries while serving as Pakistan's prime minister, reports Tribune.
Syrian Foreign minister Fayssal Mekdad has appreciated Indian support to his country amid the decade-long crisis it has been facing. In an exclusive interview with WION correspondent Sidhant Sibal, Mekdad said: "You know at a time humanity doesn't mean anything for western power, we found all human noble concepts prevailing in Indian foreign policy. It's not only Syria but any country suffering."
