Westpac cuts 132 jobs across divisions, says trade union

From the bank's risk division, 62 roles are being reduced at a time when the country faces an "unprecedented level" of scams and cybersecurity threats, the Finance Sector Union (FSU) said in a statement. The job cuts across the risk and operations divisions come on top of the 20 layoffs in January at its sales support unit in the Mortgage Services division, which were outsourced to Concentrix Corp, FSU said. "From time to time, we change the way we operate and this can impact some roles and responsibilities," Westpac said in an email response to Reuters.

Australia No.3 bank reaches union deal that lets staff work from home

SYDNEY (Reuters) -National Australia Bank (NAB), the No.3 lender, reached a deal that lets employees work from home, a union said on Friday, one of the world's first to give private-sector staff legal protection for remote work. As part of a broader deal that guarantees pay rises for 80% of the bank's 32,000 staff, NAB must show "support of and encouragement of working from home arrangements" with limitations on the grounds for the employer to refuse a request, according to the Finance Sector Union (FSU). Some of Australia's biggest companies, including NAB and larger rival Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), have set minimum office attendance requirements.

Finance workers backing new wh&s laws on psychosocial hazards

FSU
The Finance Sector Union (FSU) is celebrating the decision by Federal and State Health Ministers to regulate psychosocial hazards in the workplace.
FSU National Secretary Julia Angrisano said employers will no longer be able to ignore the impact of hazards to mental health in the workplace and will be obliged to take action to eliminate them.
This includes addressing the causes of sexual harassment which often manifests itself through psychological injuries. It’s a really significant improvement in making work safe for women.
“This decision by Federal and State Health Ministers means that we will have equal protections for physical and mental health and safety. Future generations of workers will have more rights because of this reform,” Ms Angrisano said.
