HIBBING â Many dreams will be realized in about two weeks when Hibbingâs new Inclusive Community Playground has its Aug. 12 grand opening at the Greenhaven Elementary School.
More than $250,000 was raised in the last two years with the main goal of constructing an inclusive playground, said Linnea Walli, Chair of the Inclusive Community Playground Committee.
âItâs just removing those barriers so all abilities can play together and not just in specific realms of a playground.ââ
An âInclusive Playgroundâ is a universally designed, sensory-rich environment that enables children to develop physically, socially and emotionally. It is a place that goes beyond minimum accessibility to create play experiences that meet a variety of needs and interests. Creating a playground design that is truly inclusive where children of all abilities can interact with each other and do what all kids want to do: play, a news release on the project stated.
HIBBING â The Hibbing Kiwanis Club recently donated $5,000 from its 63rd annual Pancake Feed profits to the Greenhaven PTO for the Inclusive Community Playground.
The donation is one of the largest to date for the Club, which also helped the Greenhaven PTO secure an Omni Spinner and additional private contributions for the project.
âWe are ecstatic about being able to help bring the Inclusive Community Playground to fruition,â said Kiwanis Member Kelly Grinsteinner. âAlthough itâs a small gift toward the project, it is the largest the club has made in recent years. Weâre all about supporting local youth, and this project is a perfect example of doing such.â
HIBBING â Members of the Hibbing Kiwanis Club are eager to roll up their sleeves and serve up pancakes to help build a playground for all kids to enjoy.
The Kiwanis Clubâs 63rd annual pancake feed is set for April 28, at the Memorial Building in Hibbing. Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dine-in (limited seating) and take-out are available. Delivery is also being offered, but must be arranged by Monday, April 26. Masks are required inside the Memorial Building.
The pancake feed is the clubâs biggest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from this yearâs event will go toward the Inclusive Community Playground project. The project is spearheaded by the Greenhaven PTO, and is currently about 90 percent funded of its $205,000 goal.
