HIBBING — Many dreams will be realized in about two weeks when Hibbing’s new Inclusive Community Playground has its Aug. 12 grand opening at the Greenhaven Elementary School.
More than $250,000 was raised in the last two years with the main goal of constructing an inclusive playground, said Linnea Walli, Chair of the Inclusive Community Playground Committee.
“It’s just removing those barriers so all abilities can play together and not just in specific realms of a playground.’’
An “Inclusive Playground” is a universally designed, sensory-rich environment that enables children to develop physically, socially and emotionally. It is a place that goes beyond minimum accessibility to create play experiences that meet a variety of needs and interests. Kiwanis' Pancakes for Play leads to sizable donation for playground | News


HIBBING — The Hibbing Kiwanis Club recently donated $5,000 from its 63rd annual Pancake Feed profits to the Greenhaven PTO for the Inclusive Community Playground.
The donation is one of the largest to date for the Club, which also helped the Greenhaven PTO secure an Omni Spinner and additional private contributions for the project.
“We are ecstatic about being able to help bring the Inclusive Community Playground to fruition,” said Kiwanis Member Kelly Grinsteinner. “Although it’s a small gift toward the project, it is the largest the club has made in recent years. We’re all about supporting local youth, and this project is a perfect example of doing such.” ....

Hibbing Kiwanis to host Pancakes for Play


HIBBING — Members of the Hibbing Kiwanis Club are eager to roll up their sleeves and serve up pancakes to help build a playground for all kids to enjoy.
The Kiwanis Club’s 63rd annual pancake feed is set for April 28, at the Memorial Building in Hibbing. Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dine-in (limited seating) and take-out are available. Delivery is also being offered, but must be arranged by Monday, April 26. Masks are required inside the Memorial Building.
The pancake feed is the club’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from this year’s event will go toward the Inclusive Community Playground project. The project is spearheaded by the Greenhaven PTO, and is currently about 90 percent funded of its $205,000 goal. ....

Hibbing Foundation awards over $51,00 to local nonprofits


HIBBING — The Hibbing Foundation and its ‘Family of Funds’ has impacted the community throughout the years by awarding nearly $2.6 million to over 1,600 organizations.
The Hibbing Foundation is proud to announce its 2021 grant recipients. Eighteen organizations received grants totaling $51,220.
• Access North Center for Independent Living or Northeastern Minnesota: general program support that would allow Access North the ability to hire a full-time ramp carpenter to oversee the construction of home access ramps. This $5,000 grant was made possible by the Linda Forti Hibbing Foundation Fund, Bruno & Sylvia Family Hibbing Foundation Fund, John & Nancy Ryan Family Hibbing Foundation Fund, James H.
