What’s Up? Monday morning began with the discovery of an eagle pair re-building — and copulating in — an old Osprey nest in a pine tree down by the lake. When it cleared, I enjoyed another great vulture flight session with the SONY 600 GM and the a9ii (on a tripod, of course). It has been so warm here for the past few days that the pool was up to 86 degrees yesterday! Swimming has been a pleasure. I am now doing 52 slow lengths a day (with 88 to a mile). I am almost finished going through the copy edits/proofreads of the RawDigger e-guide. Special thanks to BPN-friend Paul Burdett (fro...

What’s Up? Monday morning turned out rather nice weather-wise. It was quite still early, with some sweet light as the sun occasionally broke through the clouds. I started with a few images of my favorite crane family. Then after driving around a bit scouting, created a nice bird-scape or two of a Great Blue Heron on the edge of a canal. By the time I walked the pier at about 8:30am there was a gentle breeze from the northwest. There was a silly-tame Turkey Vulture on the pier railing that let me get closer than I ever have to any vulture. I would get really close and the bird would scamper...

What’s Up? With the huge black cloud that appeared seemingly out of nowhere on Saturday morning I took the a9 ii/200-600 on my morning walk on the pier. I tried but failed to create any really good pleasing blurs. I did keep three cormorant blurs and one American flag blur. I enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills (finally) winning a playoff game (though I like the Colts too). And I was thrilled to see the schizophrenic Los Angeles Rams beat the Seattle Seahawks. I am watching the Washington/Buccaneers game on TIVO as I type on Sunday morning. The WFT is down by eight; would it be too much to a...

What’s Up? On Monday I got back in the pool, did my bursts, and took a morning and afternoon health walk. After a decent morning photo session, I got lots of work done on the R5/R6 Camera User’s Guide. Today is Tuesday 29 December 2020. It is 7:20am as I type; Jim and I are on our way to Lakeland to check out the American White Pelicans and to see if the Great Blue Herons nest is still active; for the past few years the nest failed rather early. This afternoon, I will be getting more work done on the R5/R6 guide.

What’s Up? After re-fitting the pool’s heater/chiller a few months ago, and installing a new filter system more recently, the only thing left to fail was the pump. I cannot say that anymore. The pool was a balmy 86 degrees last week, but I was at DeSoto when the pump failed and with a mild cold front over the weekend the pool was down eleven degrees by Tuesday. This morning it was down to 73! I opted not to swim yesterday and will not be swimming today. Pool Works is coming first thing in the morning today — Wednesday 23 December 2020.
