Grieving family of George Nkencho say: 'He will forever be in our hearts'

THE grieving family of a man shot dead by cops in his front garden have declared: “He will forever be in our hearts.”
Tragic George Nkencho, 27, was laid to rest today after being shot multiple times in a stand-off with gardai outside his family home in December.

The funeral at the Sacred Heart Church in Hartstown, Dublin, was limited to ten people in line with Covid-19 restrictions.
But a crowd of more than 100 friends and neighbours gathered outside, with some holding posters demanding “justice and truth” for their pal. ....

George Nkencho death: 'I just want justice for my brother'

Princess Toyin Ogunwusi, a family friend, said Mr Nkenchoâs mother Blessing was doing âhorriblyâ and still would not accept the news of her sonâs death. âThe shock is too much for her. The shooting happened right in the familyâs presence, they actually have a recording of it. It will be in their memories for the rest of their lives.â
Israel Ibanu, who played soccer with George at the Insaka Glentoran Football Academy for four years, described his friend as a âquiet and reservedâ young man who was âdedicated to footballâ. He said Mr Nkencho started to drift from his football group after his close friend Toyosi Shittabey was stabbed to death in 2010. âThere were no supports for him and he started to fade away from our group. He didnât have anyone to speak to about what he saw happen to his friend.â ....
