HIV: a new case of remission after a bone marrow transplant

A man designated as "the Geneva patient" is in long remission from HIV. He received a bone marrow transplant that does not have a known mutation to block the virus. His case was presented Thursday in Australia. This is the sixth person likely cured of the infection after receiving a bone bone transplant. The virus remains undetectable 20 months after the interruption of antiretroviral treatment in this patient followed at the University Hospitals of Geneva, in collaboration with the Institut Pasteur and IciStem.
