BAFB panel aims to educate others on hair challenges African Americans face in the force

BOSSIER CITY, La- Wednesday, on the Barksdale Air Force Base the African American Heritage Committee hosted a panel discussing challenges African Americans face when it comes to hair.
The panel was meant to educate and bring awareness to the topic. Some conversations focused on styling of women s hair, including costs and hair related medical issues some face. There also was a discussion on recent changes in hair standards and how they can help women of color in styling their hair.
LaToya Cleveland is the Squadron Superintendent on BAFB. She said the panel was important to have.
“It allows for the individuals who are not a part of our culture to understand the beauty of African American hair, but then also understand the challenges that we have to face as well. I think bringing that awareness to the team at large, allows for our leaders and our teammates to have empathy on ....

Tribal groups rip bill to criminalize pipeline protesters

A proposal to curb protests at infrastructure projects like oil pipelines drew strong condemnation from tribal groups on Wednesday who said the threat of muscled-up criminal penalties would deter Native communities from exercising their right to peacefully protest.
Rep. Steve Gunderson, a Republican from Libby, introduced on Wednesday House Bill 481, which would up the criminal and civil penalties for those who trespass on and damage property associated with infrastructure projects; Gunderson offered the Dakota Access Pipeline as an example for the committee, where protests reached criminal levels.
Gunderson said his bill maintains protesters First Amendment rights.
They may do so, no problem, and they re allowed to exercise their right of assembly and right to protest, Gunderson told the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. Once the realm of peaceful has left and there’s burning, damage and rioting, HB 481 would kick in. ....

AG: Legislature not bound by Sununu's mask order

BEDFORD — The meetings Wednesday and Thursday of the 400-member House of Representatives are the most divided Republicans and Democrats have been — at least in recent memory — after a federal court ruled that House Speaker Sherman Packard doesn’t have to offer a remote option for those with disabilities to participate.
The two parties will even have separate entrances to the NH Sportsplex in Bedford, where the sessions are being held to keep them as far apart as possible. And especially to keep the Democrats as far away from 90-plus seats set aside for the Republicans who won t wear a face mask or say they can’t for health reasons. ....
