Children in England will return to class and people will be able to meet a friend outside for coffee in two weeks time, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced Monday as he laid out a slow easing of one of Europe s strictest pandemic lockdowns.
But those longing for a haircut, a restaurant meal or a pint in a pub have almost two months to wait, and people won t be able to hug loved ones that they don t live with until May at the earliest.
Johnson said the government s plan would move the country cautiously but irreversibly out of lockdown. ....

Vaccine trials have underrepresented people of colour for past decade, study finds

Scientists from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico are urging for more diversity in vaccine clinical trials after their new study exposed a decade’s worth of disparity from 2011 to 2020, and could have impacted vaccination rates among minorities.
The research, published Friday in medical journal JAMA Network Open, found many U.S.-based clinical trials failed to report demographic information and the ones that did frequently underrepresented Black people, Indigenous peoples, Latinxs, and people over the age of 65.
This collaborative work highlights a problem that s plagued the scientific community for too long,” Dr. Steve Pergam, one of the authors of the study said in a press release. ....

The 46th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council begins tomorrow.
For the first time in history, the meeting will be held online due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.
Based on the report released by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, six countries including the United Kingdom and Canada are due to bring a resolution against Sri Lanka.
The six countries that co-sponsored the resolution on Sri Lanka stated that a new resolution to promote reconciliation, accountability and human rights in Sri Lanka will be presented to the UN Human Rights Council this year based on the report of the High Commission. ....
