Ionia County commissioners on Tuesday approved creating a new lawn care maintenance position and adding four employees to the janitorial/maintenance department. With Commissioner Jack Shattuck absent and Philip Hesche voting “no,” commissioners voted 5-1 to create a lawn maintenance position within the Facilities Maintenance department, with a total annual cost of $67,203. ....
Basing their decision on a legal review by the county’s attorney, the Ionia County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted on Tuesday to deny election-related requests from the Ionia County Republican Party. Ionia County GOP Vice Chairperson Kristie Walls had requested that the county use paper ballots and count them by hand instead of using an optical scanner with proprietary software to tally the results of the May 2 election, a recall of Keene Township Supervisor Robert Simpson and Treasurer Kara Albert. ....
