Uphill battle ahead to solve ramping issues


Ambulance ramping is unfortunately an issue we have been discussing in Ipswich for some time, and recent circumstances have done nothing to help.
This week LNP leader David Crisafulli kicked off about the state of Ipswich Hospital’s emergency waiting times, citing a case he’d been made aware of where a girl with breathing difficulties apparently waited nine hours to be seen after being taken by ambulance.
This kind of story is not exactly surprising or alarming, as we have heard many similar accounts over the years.

A NEW addition to next month’s Ipswich Show is sure to have attendees grinning with delight as the city’s snooker talent takes centre stage.
Ipswich Eight Ball Association this week revealed it would host its first-ever major cash tournament as part of the annual show.
Local talent Chris Hogan is one of the 64 players from across southeast Queensland set to battle it out for the $4000 grand prize.
He said the two-day tournament, to be held across Saturday and Sunday, was a fantastic opportunity to promote the sport.
“It’s a great event, I think it’s a great opportunity for the club to show we’re here and to show off our talent in Ipswich. It’s a great opportunity for everyone, the seniors and the juniors,” Mr Hogan said.

Show sweetener could become tasty tradition


Now Ipswich is about to try something in between.
Ipswich Show organisers, Rotary Ipswich City and Ungermann Brothers ice cream have put their thinking caps on in the lead up to this year’s long-awaited annual celebration.
The result is a little taste of Ipswich that is hoped will go on to become an icon of the show, which will also raise important funds not only for future shows, but the community as a whole.
Show president Darren Zanow said the Ipswich Show Sundae came about after Rotary and event organisers worked with Ungermann Brothers to come up with something unique to the city.

WE must practise the distant early warning technique to raise awareness of coming events. Now that the COVID threat seems to be shrinking to manageable proportions we should turn our thoughts to the traditional show season and the need to present trotting/harness racing in one form or another - actual racing or exhibitions - at these traditional, annual fairs.
In the not too distant past, trotting was the excitement factor at these gatherings, which were very heavily supported by exhibits of local farm produce and high class farm animals, all of which were presented with the same level of showroom shine as a new car.

WHILE many of us are still in holiday mode, there has been plenty of news happening across Ipswich this week, as the dust settles on 2020 and we tentatively lift our heads to face 2021.
We may not be out of the COVID funk yet, but at least we can say at this point in time that there appears to have been no link with the new strain of coronavirus into the West Moreton Region.
