Cumbria GeoConservation group's horror at Popping Stone 'damage'
In early April, it was reported the Popping Stone, Gilsland, had been moved after, allegedly, being bulldozed. The Popping Stone is a group of three rounded, sandstone boulders on the Irthing Gorge. At the start of the month, caterpillar tracks were reported along the footpath to the site, while the stones themselves had, allegedly, been pushed toward the river and turned over.
