In early April, it was reported the Popping Stone, Gilsland, had been moved after, allegedly, being bulldozed. The Popping Stone is a group of three rounded, sandstone boulders on the Irthing Gorge. A HISTORICAL, local landmark has been moved after allegedly being bulldozed. Over the first few days of April, damage was seen to be done to the Popping Stone, Gilsland. The Popping Stone is a group of three rounded, sandstone boulders in the Irthing Gorge and lies within the grounds of the Gilsland Spa Hotel on the Cumbrian or west bank of the River Irthing.
