McCoy CBD firm gets green light from UK food watchdog


Chanelle McCoy, the former Dragons’ Den investor, has received a boost at the Cannabidiol (CBD) venture she co-founded.
According to McCoy, Pureis Ultra Pure CBD has received a validated novel food application from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in the UK. This means the company is now in full assessment for a novel food licence.
McCoy said the company had invested around £1.5m in its product over the last 18 months. It had also completed clinical studies on the CBD product.
The Food Standards Agency in the UK has given CBD companies a deadline of March 31, 2021, to have a validated Novel Food Licence application submitted. Pureis said CBD brands without a validated application would be removed from the UK market. ....

100 million meals redistributed to community groups across Ireland and the UK since 2013

Irish social enterprise FoodCloud has redistributed the equivalent of 100 million meals to its network of community group and charity partners across Ireland and the UK since 2013.
That is the equivalent of 20 meals per person in Ireland.
2020 has been an extraordinary year for many, including the enterprise, who experienced “extreme peaks and troughs in the supply of food, limited volunteers and restrictive Covid-19 work practices”.
Impact of the pandemic
FoodCloud works with retail and food businesses across the supply chain to help them redistribute their surplus food to its network of more than 9,500 charities and community groups across Ireland and internationally. ....
