Well. but i think it is certainly better than the alternative which was looking more and more likely like a possible preventive war on behalf of the united states. i think it is the positive development. i think the key now is for the national security council staff, the pentagon, the intelligence agencies and the state department to really be putting together a diplomatic game plan. this is not going to happen quickly. this is the hard part, frankly. if diplomacy is going to succeed with north korea, it is going to succeed sort of in a phased approach, most likely. we both have maximum issues, the north koreans want us to leave the peninsula. we have to meet in the middle somewhere. and i think that s the hard part. the trump administration has to have the diplomatic dexterity and discipline to carry out a plan. it may be too soon to give anyone a pat on the back here, but there is some sort of movement or an openness it dialogue. who gets the credit for that? i think it is a few ....

Korea. number one reason is to prevent some kind of miscalculation that could lead to absolutely catastrophe. mistakes can be made. i think that kind of informal dialogue would be in and of itself you want direct talks between u.s. representatives and north korean representatives. i wouldn t call it negotiations. i d call it dialogue at this stage. it s important to make sure there s no tragic miscalculation. also it s important because that s what china has been urging us to do for the last couple of years and we haven t been willing to do it. it could make a difference in china s willingness to step up and have a lot more pressure on north korea, including the sanctions i just mentioned. clearly the president right now, i believe accepts what former president obama told him in the final days of the obama administration that north korea right now represents the greatest national security threat facing the united states. do you believe that? i think it s a real threat. as the ....
