The psychedelic compound found in magic mushrooms may be at least as effective as a leading antidepressant medication in a therapeutic setting, a new study suggests. Researchers compared the therapeutic potential of psilocybin – found in the mushrooms – with a six-week course of the antidepressant escitalopram in 59 people with moderate to severe depression.
