Ghaziabad recorded 47 new COVID-19 cases while Gautam Buddh Nagar added another 68 on Monday, even as the two neighbouring districts in western Uttar Pradesh together registered seven more deaths, official data showed. Six of the new deaths were in Ghaziabad, while one in Gautam Buddh Nagar, as the toll in these districts reached 442 and 450, respectively, according to the state s Health Department data for a 24-hour period. According to the data, so far 62,356 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Gautam Buddh Nagar, which has 1,073 active cases. Ghaziabad s overall case tally is 55,064 with 1,688 active patients, it showed. On the brighter side, 181 patients in Gautam Buddh Nagar and 123 in Ghaziabad were discharged after treatment as the overall recoveries in the districts reached 60,833 and 52,934, respectively. ....
A plea has been moved in the Supreme Court to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) to conduct the investigation into over 100 corpses, found floating in the Ganga river in Bihar s Buxar, and Uttar Pradesh s Ghazipur and Unnao districts, amid the ongoing second wave of Covid-19 pandemic. The plea, filed by lawyers Pradeep Yadav and Vishal Thakre, urged the top court to issue direction the state government cconcerned to conduct post-mortem of the dead bodies. The act of the states is inhuman as they failed to provide facilities for decent burial/cremation of dead bodies and to keep a check on pollution of the holy river, Ganga, by such indecent act either of individuals or of authorities, the petition said. ....
Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh, the Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration has decided to increase the number of random coronavirus tests for people commuting to and from Delhi. Number of COVID tests will be increased in areas bordering Delhi. For people commuting to and from the national capital, the random tests for the virus will be conducted, District Magistrate Suhas LY said while speaking to reporters on Thursday. The tests will be conducted at the Delhi-Noida border area. Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government yesterday extended existing night curfew timings in its several cities including the capital Lucknow and Gautam Budh Nagar. ....
