Azuma/Whitaker Stay Undefeated While Tigers Drop to Georgia Tech, 4-1
Clemson, S.C. The Clemson men’s tennis team (5-7, 1-4 ACC) fell to ACC opponent Georgia Tech (7-5, 2-3 ACC) 4-1 on Friday at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. The two teams were tied for the No. 44 ranks in the nation heading into the match. 
In doubles play, Spencer Whitaker and Ryuhei Azuma remained undefeated, earning the victory on line one 7-5 to advance to 5-0 as a pair. However, losses on Courts 1 and 3 ultimately cost the Tigers the doubles point. 
Jorge Plans Gonzalez earned his second consecutive singles victory by a score of 6-4, 6-4 on court 5. Whitaker and Jacob Jahn were in the third set of their matches after winning both of their respective first sets when the Yellow Jackets clinched the win.  ....

Tigers Fall to Memphis


Clemson, S.C.  In its final non-conference match before opening ACC play, the Clemson men’s tennis team (4-3, 0-0 ACC) fell to Memphis (3-1, 0-0 AAC), 6-1, on Friday night.
The Tigers dropped the doubles decision with losses at No. 1 (2-6) and 3 (5-7). In singles, Teodor Giusca pic  aked up the lone victory of the match on Court 1, 5-7, 6-4, 10-6, to improve to 6-1 on the season.

The Tigers hit the road for the first time this season to open up ACC action. Clemson makes its first stop in Tallahassee on Friday, Feb. 19 where it will take on Florida State at 5:30 p.m. Then on Feb. 21 the Tigers travel to Coral Gables to face Miami. Jahn and Azuma Earn Ranked Win as Tigers Down Old Dominion, 6-1


Clemson, S.C.  The pair of Jacob Jahn and Ryuhei Azuma earned their first ranked win in doubles as the Tigers topped Old Dominion, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon. The doubles decision came down to Court 1 where Jahn/Azuma topped No. 25 Maldoner/Vidal, 6-3.  Spencer Whitaker and Teodor Giusca (6-4) helped to secure the doubles point for Clemson, finishing first at line three.
The Monarchs evened the score at one-all with a victory at No. 6 singles but the Tigers surged back with five-straight wins. Jorge Plans Gonzalez quickly picked up a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Nicola Vidal on Court 3. Azuma followed closely behind, taking line four, 6-2, 6-4, while Whitaker delivered the match-clincher on Court 5, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-1). Additionally, Giusca downed Maldoner, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6) at line one and Yizhou Liu battled back to defeat Tomislav Podvinski, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). ....

Clemson, S.C.  The Clemson men’s tennis team (2-0, 0-0 ACC) picked up a pair of victories in the Duckworth Classic on Saturday to open the 2021 season. The Tigers first swept Chattanooga (0-1, 0-0 SoCon), 7-0, in their early match and then went on to defeat Wofford (0-1, 0-0 SoCon), 6-1.

The Tigers took control of their match against Chattanooga early, earning the doubles point at lines three and one. Carlos Kelaidis and Spencer Whitaker swept their opponents on Court 3 followed closely behind by Ryuhei Azuma and Jacob Jahn who won, 6-2, on Court 1. In singles, Teodor Giusca (6-1, 6-0), Jahn (6-0, 6-0) and Kelaidis (6-3, 6-2) strung together wins to clinch the match for the Tigers. Yizhou Liu, who returned to the court for the first time since January 2020, won the top court, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Additionally, first-year Tigers Azuma and Jorge Plans Gonzalez each earned their first career singles victories, winning ....
