Azuma/Whitaker Stay Undefeated While Tigers Drop to Georgia Tech, 4-1 Clemson, S.C. The Clemson men’s tennis team (5-7, 1-4 ACC) fell to ACC opponent Georgia Tech (7-5, 2-3 ACC) 4-1 on Friday at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. The two teams were tied for the No. 44 ranks in the nation heading into the match. In doubles play, Spencer Whitaker and Ryuhei Azuma remained undefeated, earning the victory on line one 7-5 to advance to 5-0 as a pair. However, losses on Courts 1 and 3 ultimately cost the Tigers the doubles point. Jorge Plans Gonzalez earned his second consecutive singles victory by a score of 6-4, 6-4 on court 5. The doubles decision came down to Court 1 where Jahn/Azuma topped No. 25 Maldoner/Vidal, 6-3. Spencer Whitaker and Teodor Giusca (6-4) helped to secure the doubles point for Clemson, finishing first at line three. The Monarchs evened the score at one-all with a victory at No. 6 singles but the Tigers surged back with five-straight wins. Jorge Plans Gonzalez quickly picked up a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Nicola Vidal on Court 3. The Tigers first swept Chattanooga (0-1, 0-0 SoCon), 7-0, in their early match and then went on to defeat Wofford (0-1, 0-0 SoCon), 6-1. Clemson 7, Chattanooga 0 The Tigers took control of their match against Chattanooga early, earning the doubles point at lines three and one. Carlos Kelaidis and Spencer Whitaker swept their opponents on Court 3 followed closely behind by Ryuhei Azuma and Jacob Jahn who won, 6-2, on Court 1. In singles, Teodor Giusca (6-1, 6-0), Jahn (6-0, 6-0) and Kelaidis (6-3, 6-2) strung together wins to clinch the match for the Tigers.
